Skin Resurfacing is the practice of causing tiny abrasions to the skin, forcing your body to heal and create a new, unblemished surface. FlashLaser uses both microneedling treatments and laser treatments to perform skin resurfacing. Choosing the right type of skin resurfacing treatment should be done through a RN consultation to determine which method will produce the best results. Both microneedling and laser skin resurfacing treatments are highly effective at treating:
• Rough skin
• Acne scars
• Large pores
• Sun-damaged skin
• Fine lines around mouth and eyes
• Chicken pox divots
Pixel Skin Resurfacing
Pixel Skin Resurfacing is a laser treatment used for skin rejuvenation and can be used on all parts of the body. This technology has evolved over the years from the earlier resurfacing lasers that targeted the entire skin’s surface and took far longer to heal. Pixel instead treats your skin in tiny portions, allowing it to drastically change your skin quickly. Pixel improves the texture and tone of the skin and stimulates the production of collagen.
Pixel uses an erbium fractional resurfacing laser that fires a small grid of 7x7 or 9x9 lasers onto the surface of your skin. These tiny beams of light create small holes in your skin, penetrating the epidermis. These holes are called ‘pixels’ and the depth of the holes is determined by the number of pulses done on top of one another. The skin surrounding these holes is undamaged, which helps your skin recover faster. These micro-holes promote the creation of collagen as a part of the healing process. This collagen production helps tighten your skin while the healing also improves the skins texture and tone.
Before a Pixel treatment, we make sure your skin is clean, exfoliated, and any blemishes are extracted. During the procedure our RN makes sure you are comfortable, as Pixel can be uncomfortable for some people. Most Pixel treatments involve two passes over the area. After the first pass, a strong topical numbing cream is applied to your skin. The holes already in your skin help the absorption process and ice is applied. After the treatment area is numb, the second pass of Pixel is completed. When the second pass is finished, your skin will be coated with Aquaphor, which helps aid the initial healing, and holds in the remaining numbing cream, keeping you comfortable.
When the procedure is finished, your skin will be very pink and can be sensitive after the numbing has worn off – like a strong sunburn. FlashLaser has developed our own Recovery Kit which includes several cleansers and moisturizers we have found to be helpful in the healing process, as well as instructions on the care of your skin as it recuperates from the Pixel treatment. It is very important to stay out of the sun after having Pixel until your skin has fully healed. Most patients report that the treated dots begin to shed about 3 days after the treatment. The majority of patients are fully healed with new, smooth skin in one week. The coloration of your skin will continue to improve for 1-2 weeks post-treatment, and the structure of your skin continues to improve for several weeks.
